What Causes Wrinkles?
We all look in the mirror and see our faces change as we grow older, but what actually causes those wrinkles in our skin?
Wrinkles are considered to be creases, folds or ridges in the skin and they usually increase as we get older. There are a number of causes for wrinkles, beginning first and foremost with our facial expressions. According to the Mayo Clinic, each time we use a facial muscle a groove forms under the surface of the skin. When you are young the skin springs back, but as it gets older and loses its flexibility springing back becomes harder and less frequent, resulting in more permanent grooves. Since most of us don’t want to stop smiling and/or keep our faces expressionless, we end up with wrinkles from a lifetime from expression.
Other factors that contribute to the wrinkles on our skin include sun exposure, smoking, dehydration, some medications and genetics. Some of these factors can be mitigated by protecting your exposed skin from harsh environments. We usually get wrinkles on the face and neck, the backs of our hands, the top of our forearms, all those places that are most exposed. And we can all observe that people whose jobs expose them to more sunlight tend to become wrinkly earlier than others. Examples include fishermen, farmers, sailors, golfers, and gardeners.
Experts say that the link between regular smoking and the accelerated aging of skin is due to a reduced blood supply to the skin.
Dehydration can be addressed by making sure that you supply your skin with good hydration from the inside, especially if you live in a dry climate.
Alas, our genes are what they are, and if your parents developed wrinkles early you are pre-disposed to do so also.
So if you don’t want wrinkles, what should you do? There are a lot of extreme solutions (face lift, botox) but at Ashieda we are believers in a more natural approach. If you give your skin the natural ingredients it needs on a regular basis, you can mitigate almost all of the above factors. While we can’t do anything about your genes, our products can renew your skin from sun exposure, increase blood supply to the skin, increase flexibility and keep your skin hydrated in ways that give you a healthy, youthful glow.
